Samsung’s current Note flagship, the Galaxy Note 5, was lunched on August 21, 2015. Rumors said that Samsung would skip the Galaxy Note 6 naming convention and jump right to the Note 7 in an effort to correspond it with its other Galaxy flagship, the Galaxy S7.
As Samsung mentioned earlier that day, that’s exactly the case as the company wants to unify its product portfolio.
Apple is also set to unveil the iPhone 7 this also may have been yet another motivating factor to skip the number six.Samsung didn’t come out and admit as much but I digress.
The Galaxy Note 7 will be unveiled on August 2 at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in New York City. The event is scheduled to kick off at 11:00 a.m. EDT and will be live streamed online. Samsung will host simultaneously launch events in Rio de Janeiro at noon local time and in London at 4:00 p.m. local time.
Speaking of Rio, Samsung last week announced the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition smartphone which it will give to each of the 12,500 Rio Olympians so they’ll be able to communicate with friends and family around the world during the Games.
